DEMO REEL

The following is a compilation of some of my packages, stand-ups and voice overs from my last term in grad school. The majority of the work is from my television and documentary courses. If you want to see the full packages and documentaries, have a look below. Check out my demo and tell me what you think.

Simulated Reporter Read

And now it's time to be the reporter! This was filmed during the same class as the anchor read, where we had the option of also shooting a reporter's read. I jumped on the opportunity, primarily because I loved being on camera as the anchor, but also to broaden my experience in television. I really enjoyed doing this, and cannot wait to do more on camera work.

Between 00:42 and 01:02, I read from a script (at this point viz would be overlayed to create a V/O).

Check out my demo for more camera work!

Simulated Anchor Read

This is a video of me taking on the role of an anchor and reading from a teleprompter. The script was taken from a local news station's 6 o'clock show and put into the prompter.

This was filmed during my second television class, and was surprised with how comfortable I was on camera. Television seems to be the place to be!

Antique Documentary

This is the second documentary that my group produced for our documentary class. Our focus changed throughout the production, and only came together the week of our deadline. We had a number of issues working on it, such as finding the time to interview people, weather interruptions, camera malfunctions, sound recording malfunctions and lighting.

Considering all the problems we had, and our constant change of focus, I am very happy with the final result.

I unfortunately did not have the opportunity to have a "post mortem" with my teacher, but he was impressed with my delivery and the "quirky" direction we took.

I would like to thank my production team who contributed on this documentary: Jason Tushinski, Kelly Albert and Lindsay Lafrenier. We put this thing together while we had a number of other school projects due, kept our cool and generally had a great time putting it together.

Newscast

This video is a live newscast that was taped for my last television class. I took over the role of producer, knowing that it would be a challenge and a great amount of work.

As producer, I was in charge of how the newscast would play out, what package report would go where, what story would become a de-brief and what kind of "live-hit" we would do. I also monitored the graphics and made sure everyone was assigned proper roles.

I spent three days stressing over it, but I am so pleased and proud with how it came together. Much thanks goes to my executive producer, Brian Gabrial, and to my amazing news team: Samantha Rideout, Ami Kingdon, Rose Sneyd, Peter Braul, Laura Glowacki, Vanmala Subramanium, Liz Faure, Antoine Dion Ortega and Morgan Dunlop.

P.S. Sorry about the "blank" green screen between 5:21 and 5:36. This was due to a dropped frame in the graphics program we used.

Energy Drinks Package Report

This is my second package report that I produced, about energy drinks and its effects on teeth. The original pack was reported by my colleague, Natasha Lappos, so the audio quality is sub par when I imported my own V/O (voice over).

This pack took only 2 days to work on - shooting on the first day, and editing on the second. I was surprised on how fast we finished it, considering that my first pack - "Mama J's Cakes" - took a full week to complete. I guess I'm getting a taste of a real reporter's duties when working under deadline. I feel that it makes me work better and faster.

I only wish I had the access to work on the audio quality, but for what it is, I am happy with it.

Coffee and Tea Documentary - My Read

This is a documentary about coffee and tea as a culture in Canada. It was produced for my documentary/current affairs class last semester. I have already posted this before, where my colleague, Kelly Albert, originally reported. I decided to put in my own read version to get more experience with on-screen time.

I would like to thank the members of my group who helped produce the project: Kelly Albert, Cynthia Iorio and Natasha Lappos.

After the "post mortem" with my professor, Jim McLean, I noticed a number of things I would change : volume levels, the hummer sequence (probably pixelate the image to make it more "kitsch") and some of the angles approached (i.e. different culture's perspective of coffee and tea).

In the end, I am very proud with the final result, especially with it being our first documentary.
